Career
AKIRA is a core member and leader of the EXILE group. In addition to his work as a performer, he has appeared in several movies, dramas, plays, and also taken on voice acting roles. He won the Japanese Movie Critics Award for his 2009 film Be Sure to Share. AKIRA made his international acting debut with the 2010 Chinese film Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen. He then went on to make his Hollywood debut with Martin Scorsese’s 2017 film Silence. AKIRA narrated the Japanese version of the feature-length documentary MIFUNE: THE LAST SAMURAI about the life of actor Toshiro Mifune. In January 2019, he played a leading role alongside Nao Omori in the movie This Old Road: Konomichi, marking the 100th anniversary of Dōyō, which is translated in English to “children’s songs”. Dōyō songs play an essential role in early musical education for children in Japan.
Alongside his work as an artist and actor, AKIRA became the first Asian brand ambassador for Ralph Lauren in 2017 and was contracted as a model for Ralph Lauren’s luxury Purple Label line for two years in a row in 2018 and 2019. AKIRA continues his international endeavors.
