- Introduced by Yo Takahashi (who was his lecturer at the Film School of Tokyo), Shimizu met Taka Ichise, with whom he later produced the video versions of ”Ju-on: The Grudge” and ”Ju-on: The Grudge 2”. With the Hollywood remake version ”The Grudge” he became the first Japanese director to hit the top of the box-office charts in the States with a live-action work.
