Career
After graduating from Chuo University, Akinori Kikuchi learned scenario writing in Scenario Institute and studied under Kaneto Shindo and Shigeki Chiba--both are playwrights and film directors. In his late thirties he started writing novels and non-fictions. Since his forties he has been planning and writing scripts mainly for special programs and documentaries in TV stations all around the country, making Sendai and Tokyo his base. He has been involved in planning and production of events and festivals, and developed Jozenji Street Jazz Festival into the biggest street music festival in Japan, which had a total attendance of seven hundred thousand. He established Totteoki no Ongakusai (Very Special Music Festival) and expanded it to eighteen cities nationwide. He also took the role of overall director of Sendai Tanabata Hoshi no Yoi Matsuri (Sendai Tanabata Star Night Festival), Yamaha Otomachi (Music City) Project and Berlin International Film Festival in Sendai.
