Career
Junichi Matsumoto born on April 20, 1973 in Kushiro City, Hokkaido.
Graduated from Kunitachi College of Music, Department of Composition(1992-1996), studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Master of Composition(2009-2011), and after returning to Japan, has developed his career in various fields such as TV movies, commercials, stages and J pop.
In 2011 he won the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium Finalist Prize at the Composition Category, in 2014 won the Japan Academy Prize for Excellent Music Award (“Like Father, Like Son”, directed by Hirokazu Koreeda),
and in 2022 won the 2nd Prize in the Composition Division of the 91th Music Competition of Japan. From 2016 to 2023, he worked on the music for the hit animation “The Ancient Magus’ Bride”.
In 2017, “Mr. Long” (directed by SABU and starring Chang Chen ), for which he composed the music, was nominated in the Competition at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The local professional press highly acclaimed the music for the film.
In the art scene, he continues collaborating with various artists and groups, including dancer Kaiji Moriyama, artist Sebastian Masuda, and numerous contemporary dance groups.
